Uploaded New Blog- HST is Right on ...But

On July 1, in Ontario and British Columbia, two consumption taxes will merge: Provincial Sales Tax (PST) will merge with Federal Goods and Services Tax (GST) to become the Federal Harmonized Sales Taxes (HST). Many folks in each Province are outraged because the HST will apply to some items that’s currently taxed by the GST but not the PST. Governments say this tax rearrangement will be neutral to them ⎯ they will not collect more taxes by the combination. Today, many individuals and groups are trying to get Governments to reverse the decision. I think these folks are fighting the wrong battle. ...

Summer Quarterly Letter Uploaded

What a wonderful retirement gift Jesus prepared for His children! He assures the believer that He has arranged a place in heaven for him. But what about retirement while on earth? First, you need to understand what retirement means to you. According to some dictionaries, it’s “withdrawal from one’s occupation or business.” But I found a definition that intrigued me: retirement is, “withdrawal from office, business or active life.” Withdrawal from active life; isn’t that death … almost!
The only reference to retirement in the Bible is in the Book of Numbers, referring to Levites who worked in the Tent of Meeting says: ...

Check Out August's Weekly Meditations

Have you noticed? Life is about choices. Often unconsciously we choose between important matters such as working, rather than loafing, eating rather than starving, sleeping rather than staying awake. Nobody tells us which to choose because these responses either are inherent or come by experience. Not so with other choices where ignorance and cowardice often hold us back. This month we will look at some choices that result from inaction:
First, Heaven or Hell: Doing nothing is a powerful decision! Second, Truth or “Tolerance”: The high ground or the easy way out! Third, Success or Failure: How high must I reach! Fourth, Christianity or Religion: The Person or the rules!

New Blog Uploaded: Consumer Spending Isn't The Answer

According to Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke on 2 August, the U.S. economy hasn't recovered fully: it's improving, with high unemployment and a weak housing market leaving consumers unsettled. The economy has a "considerable way to go" before it recovers fully, he said. As well, he remarked, consumer spending should pick up in the coming months, as income rises and credit conditions improve. Really! I don't get it! We have a vicious cycle here! U.S. unemployment is around 10 percent, over twice pre-recession levels. Consumers are heavily in debt, and rightly, lowering debt...

New Blog Uploaded:Debt Stifes Economic Growth

In its May 14 Fiscal Monitor, titled Navigating The Fiscal Challenges Ahead, The International Monetary Fund (IMF) paints a grim, yet realistic picture. The report states, “even as the global economy improves, fiscal balances in advanced countries, are worsening.” One significant concern is the “exceptionally high” government financing needs of many advanced economies. US Government debt, average maturity of 4.4 years, is about 100% of GDP and projected to rise. This year, the US will need to raise debt equivalent to 32% of GDP to rollover maturing debt (21% of GDP) and for new deficits (11% of GDP)--a significant exposure to interest rate hikes that will siphon funds from basic needs!...

Blog Uploaded:Consumer, Protect Thyself!

As a kid growing up I learned, “God helps those who help themselves.” After becoming a follower of Messiah as an adult, someone mentioned that quote, but it didn’t compute–it’s contrary to biblical teachings! Though disputed, some sources attribute it to Benjamin Franklin, quoted in Poor Richard’s Almanac in 1757. The Bible tells us it is when we are weak God is strong through us. It tells us too, to do our best always as if we were working for God (Colossians 3:23).

The USA Government’s motto seems to be, “We will help you; don’t help yourself!” Lost in discussions on consumer protection is a message to consumers that consumers have prime responsibility to inform themselves before entering financial and other transactions. ...

Have you noticed that happiness is in vogue? An industry has developed about happiness. People pay to join groups to laugh...yes, to laugh. Then again, many people strive to get money because they believe it is the key to happiness. They run ahead of God to borrow or gamble to try to get what they want. [...]

10th Anniversary Quarterly Letter

In December 2001, encouraged by a few church brothers, and after prayer, I wrote my first quarterly letter. Ten years and 40 letters later, I am writing the last...at least, for now. Much changed in this time. About eighteen months ago, I wrote my first article for Technorati.com. Later, I submitted articles to EzineArticles.com. To date, my content on the first site deals with macro economic and pseudo-political matters, and on the second, personal finances. I will continue writing for these sites, until the Lord shows me otherwise. [...]
